Why does my mouse randomly scroll the opposite direction?

I’m facing an issue where my mouse randomly scroll the opposite direction. What could be causing this problem? Any fixes or settings I should check?

That's usually a scroll direction setting that got flipped somehow, check your mouse settings in Control Panel or System Preferences and look for natural scrolling being turned on, toggling that off usually fixes it right away.

Opposite scrolling occurs as a result of dirt in the scroll wheel, driver or software problems, low power level, wireless connectivity issues, and/or damaged parts.

I've had a similar issue with my mouse before and it was really frustrating, so I feel you. It's possible that the problem is with the mouse's settings or the driver, so I'd suggest checking the mouse settings in your computer's control panel to see if there's an option to reverse the scroll direction, maybe it's been accidentally enabled. Also, try updating your mouse driver or reinstalling it, that usually solves the problem. If the issue persists, you might want to try using a different mouse to see if the problem is with the hardware itself, that way you can rule out any software issues.

A mouse that randomly scrolls the opposite direction is often caused by a dirty or failing scroll wheel sensor, outdated drivers, wireless interference, low battery, or software settings like reverse scrolling accidentally enabled. Dust inside the wheel can cause erratic signals, so cleaning the mouse with compressed air may help. Updating or reinstalling mouse drivers, checking system scroll settings, testing on another device, or replacing the mouse (especially if the wheel encoder is worn out) are common fixes.

When a mouse scrolls randomly in the opposite direction, it is mostly due to outdated mouse drivers, a low battery in wireless models, dirt around the scroll wheel, software conflicts, or wrong system settings. Besides, some mice can wear out their scroll wheel sensors over time. Cleaning the wheel, reconnecting the mouse, updating drivers, verifying scrolling settings, or using the mouse on another computer are some troubleshooting steps. If the problem persists, you might consider repairing or replacing the hardware.
