AMD-V is disabled in the bios?

I keep getting “AMD-V is disabled in the BIOS” when trying to start a VM. I checked my BIOS but can’t find the virtualization toggle some menus look different across boards. Has anyone had this and where exactly is the setting (may be called SVM, Virtualization, or something else)? If you enabled it, did you need a BIOS update or a specific option path for your motherboard model?

I ran into the same issue last week. On most AMD boards, the setting is called SVM Mode rather than AMD-V. You’ll usually find it under Advanced → CPU Configuration or Advanced → CPU Features depending on your BIOS. Once you enable it and save, reboot and your VM should work. No BIOS update needed for most modern boards.

LOL I spent an hour trying to find this, only to realize my BIOS was hiding it like it was a secret treasure map SVM Mode is the magic word. Don’t worry, you’re not going crazy.

Honestly, people make it sound way harder than it is. If you can’t find SVM or virtualization in your BIOS, maybe your motherboard is too old? Or maybe you just need to read the manual… not everything is a software bug

I’m confused do all AMD CPUs support virtualization by default? I tried enabling SVM, but my VM still says AMD V disabled. Did you have to change any other settings like secure boot or TPM?

Yep, I had the same problem with my ASUS AM5 board. SVM was tucked under Advanced → CPU Configuration. Also, make sure Fast Boot is disabled; it sometimes prevents the setting from taking effect. After that, VMware/VirtualBox detected AMD-V instantly.
