How to Superscript in Google Docs?

I’m trying to format text properly and can’t figure out how to superscript in Google Docs. What’s the quickest way to do this on desktop or mobile without using add-ons?

On desktop it’s actually pretty straightforward. Highlight the text you want, then go to Format → Text → Superscript. Once you do it a couple of times, it becomes muscle memory. This is usually how I handle exponents or footnotes when figuring out how to superscript in Google Docs.

If you like keyboard shortcuts, there’s a faster option. On Windows or Chromebook, select the text and press Ctrl + . (Control and period). On Mac, it’s Cmd + .. This is by far the quickest way to superscript in Google Docs if you’re typing math or chemical formulas.

Mobile works a bit differently, which confused me at first. In the Google Docs app, tap and highlight the text, then tap the A (format) icon at the top. Under “Text,” you’ll see Superscript as an option. Not as fast as desktop shortcuts, but it gets the job done.
